Day Three Hundred and Fifty-Seven: Another first day — 3 hours ago

Christy added an entry about take 365 days of self portraits:

Today was the first day of class for the fall semester. I’m teaching one section of freshman writing and one section of American literature. I’d already forgotten how exhausting teaching can be.

Day Three Hundred and Fifty-Six: 365 Days

I'm pretty much out of ideas. I spent some time twirling around in my living room to get this shot.

Backseat Driver: August 24, 2008

Day Three Hundred and Fifty-Five: 365 Days

As a passenger, I'm always really concerned with what the driver is doing. I am a silent backseat driver, though, restricting myself to making faces, holding on for my life, and checking blindspots every time the driver changes lanes or turns.

It's a flaw; I'm working on it.

The People's Eyebrow

My left eyebrow is not normally the one I would raise; it comes much easier to me to raise my right eyebrow. But I've actually spent enough time practicing raising my left eyebrow that now I'm ambi-eyebrowed.

The Storm Is Coming: August 23, 2008

Day Three Hundred and Fifty-Four: 365 Days

Well what starts out as a warm breeze turns into something more
Like the lightning burns down houses
Or the wind that blows down doors
Oh I see it in the distance
It moves much faster than I think
Yes this storm will wreak much havoc
Bring my sanity to the brink

Once I was so young and careless
Never strayed much from the path
Now I find myself in trouble
Never knowing when to laugh
And as my eyes sink into my skull
I am wired to the max
Gonna pull myself together
You can see I'm coming back

If the storm is coming, the storm is coming
The storm is coming
It's gonna make a beautiful sound
I hope it turns your life upside down

Now the wooden gate is creaking
And the windows loudly rattle
Yet I still venture towards it
Like I'm marching into battle
Oh I could heed your good advice
And stay in comfort back at home
But there it ia in its splendour
And it's chilling me down to the bone

Once I was so young and careless
Never strayed much from the path
Now I find myself in trouble
Never knowing when to laugh
And as my eyes sink into my skull
I am wired to the max
Gonna pull myself toether
I'm gonna pull myself together

If the storm is coming, the storm is coming
The storm is coming I hope it turns your life upside down
It's gonna make a beautiful sound
I hope it turns your life upside down

Down, down, down
I hope it turns your life upside down

Abandoned

I was looking for a place to do my 365 self-portrait and spotted this abandoned shopping mart. I set my camera on the bumper of my truck as a makeshift tripod and was about to walk over to take some photos of myself when a truck full of teenagers (a big truck, maybe a Ford F-350) pulled into the parking lot. They all stared at me, even a bit sneeringly, as they drove past, which made me nervous. Then they pulled off the paved parking lot into the grass, did a couple of donuts in the truck and drove away.

I finished up my self-portrait session quickly after that.

I helped my brother move out of this lovely apartment (featured once before in my 365 Days) into a tiny, tiny, tiny room. He really likes it, though, so I guess it’s all good.

Organic/Inorganic

"Cyborg imagery can suggest a way out of the maze of dualisms in which we have explained our bodies and our tools to ourselves. This is a dream not of a common language, but of a powerful infidel heteroglossia. It is an imagination of a feminist speaking in tongues to strike fear into the circuits of the supersavers of the new right. It means both building and destroying machines, identities, categories, relationships, space stories. Though both are bound in the spiral dance, I would rather be a cyborg than a goddess."
